Assigned sex is a label given at birth by medical professionals based on a variety of factors; anatomy, hormones, chromosomes and genitalia. Society tells us that there are only ‘two’ sexes, male and female. But there is also intersex and diverse sex development (DSD). Society also tells us that external genitalia = sex. This is invalidating and excluded a lot of people with DSD. The idea that sex is a binary is particularly harmful and traumatic.
