What is an orgasm?

An orgasm is when an individual experiences the peak of sexual arousal and body fluids are released through the genitals. Orgasm looks different for different people. People with penis experience orgasm when they ejaculate (release of semen from the penis). People with vulva experience orgasm as a feeling of intense physical pleasure and tension. There is an involuntary contraction of the muscles around the genitals. However, orgasms vary from person to person in terms of frequency and intensity.
